the enemy within is my brother

A group of 5 hooligans storm into a local store and began to take and destroy things. The shop had a dim source of light which the store keeper used.
“Where’s all the money?!” One of hooligans asked shouting at the store keeper..
“Its….its….here.” The old man trembled pointing to a box beside him. They pushed him to the ground and broke the safe. Opening it, they took away all the money and headed outside….
Outside: The hooligans met the nightmare and his men in front of them…..
“Hello gentlemen.” The nightmare greeted.
“Who are you?” One the hooligans asked..
“That’s the nightmare.” Another one whispered from the back…
“looks like my fame already precedes me.” The nightmare said. Fear caught the hooligans as they realized who he was. They all began to move back slowly while the nightmare and his men moved forward at the same pace…
“Hand over the box, and we’ll leave here happy.” The person with the box looked at the rest of his gang who nodded their heads as a sign for him to release the box…
“Be quick about it.” The nightmare said, his voice rising more than the last time. The box holder moved forward sluggishly and handed the box to the nightmare. Pretending to go back, he also gives the nightmare a punch on the face. Already fuming with anger, the nightmare carried him up by the neck with only one hand…
“Plea…please…..I’m….I’m….sorry.” the hooligan begged.
“You should know better than to play tricks with me.” The nightmare said. He stared into his eyes for a while and suddenly dropped him. The hooligan then picked up a nearby iron rod and turned back and attacked his fellow gang. The nightmare picked up the box and walked out with his men as the cries of the hooligans echoed…..

#BIS – 9:00am…..
It’s another day in Beginner’s International School. Students walked in through the school gate to attend classes. Tyler enters through the gate amidst of other students. He was looking every handsome. He wore a blue T shirt and a pair of black fitted jeans. On his feet were a pair of gray sneakers. His hair was shaped in a fashionable way which made him look more attractive…..

#Hallway
Tyler bounces through the hallway where he bumps into Kaylee. She was clad in blue velvet. She looked more beautiful than before and had Tyler staring at her.
“Hey, good morning.” She greeted when the staring was getting awkward.
“Hey, sorry for staring.” Tyler greeted back.
“No worries.” She replied smiling.
“Guys… oh sorry, I wasn’t interrupting was I?” Troy asked as he got to where they were.
“Nope.” Tyler and Kaylee answered together.
“Check this out.” He brought out his phone and showed them a news video:..
“News just arrived that a local store was robbed last night by a group of 5 hooligans. The local store keeper remains unharmed but the hooligans were all found dead in front of the store. Medical practitioners said that from the test conducted, the hooligans actually killed each other. Sounds crazy, but we’re been led to believe that there is something supernatural in play but no one knows what……” Troy ends the video

“It’s the nightmare, he’s the one responsible for this.” Troy began.
“And how do you know this?” Tyler asked.
“It’s what he does, he controls people and also makes them see their worst nightmare.”
“Let’s go.” Kaylee said.
“Let’s call Roy too.” Tyler suggested.
“Roy? For what?” Kaylee asked showing a bit anger.
“You haven’t told her?” Troy asked.
“Told me what?”
“Last full moon, we faced the alpha Lord again and he saved us.” Tyler began.
“so you let him join us because of that?” Kaylee asked
“Sort of.”
“That’s not happening.” Kaylee said and walked away in anger while Tyler ran after her leaving Troy who stood and watched them…. Across, Roy had been watching them and smiled to himself when he saw Kaylee walking away….

My father's wise for his children

I laid on my bed when school was over for the
day, I had just finished my assignment. I decided
to call my Father, he and I were pretty close,
guess you could say I was a daddy’s girl
“Daddyluv”
“Milia dear how you..how was school today”
“Pretty hectic, we have a test coming up its hell,
how’s church and all?”
“Its fine..just ask Him for directions, he will guide
you..have you read today?”
“Yea I went to the library”
“Ok.your mom says hi ,Janet too..are you about
to sleep?”
“Yes..just wanted to say goodnight..and that I
love you Dad”
“I love you too my angel..don’t let me keep you
up, remember I always pray for you, have a
pleasant rest” I smiled as I cut, I felt contented,
it was a feeling I associated with speaking with
my Father. I said my prayer and slept off.
I woke up to something crawling on my skin, I hit
at it, ended up slapping myself, I slept again, it
came again then again as I kept slapping myself
then awoke fully, Rebecca went running..
“Oh you..I ll get you” I got out of bed and
pursued her around the room hitting her severally
with the pillow when I caught her
“Your so mean” I said.
“Somebody had to wake you up”she replied
We made up and got ready for class which was
by 8am, Rebecca was my roommate off
campus..I had stayed in the hostel with my sister
before I moved in with her a year ago..she was
the best roommate there was, maybe because
we were good friends..
” so I was thinking you should wear the black
skirt instead” I looked at her
“Rebecca..I think you are letting Serena get in
your head”
“What..I just prefer you on the black its …”
“Tighter.. Who am I showing my curves to..I
appreciate you being nice about it but if you
tryna change me..I’d totally hate you for it”
“You getting it all wrong.. It just looks better on
you”
“So I am sticking with the one that doesn’t” I
couldn’t believe she was tryna change me too..
We finally got to class..Serena came right at me
pulling me away
“Hey your sitting with me ..I kept a seat”she
looked at Rebecca daring her to oppose
” But Rebecca and I usually sit together”I
protested
“Im sure she ll be fine without you for one class,
you talk to other people in class rii?” She asked
Rebecca who sighed
“Emilia just go” she said
“You sure?” But she d already gone to look for a
seat in the already crowded lecture hall, I
groggily went with Serena wondering what she
wanted..We never sat together in class because
her clique of friends weren’t nice, she’d really
kept a seat for me. We sat in silence before they
started talking about the party of course, the
preparations and all, I tried to not be interested
but they pulled me in..
“So why can’t you come again?” Serena asked
“Cos I can’t.. I don’t do parties”
“Ok..because you all churchy..don’t you guys
have any social life in fellowship?”
“We do..not just the kind you d like” I replied
“Well I d like to come see…when’s your
fellowship?”
I gulped..what “really you wanna come?” I
glanced at her friends who looked shocked at
her like she just said she wanted to comit
suicide
“Yeah..why not.you my friend right”
“Well we d be delighted to have you..its
Wednesday 4pm”
“Ok you can call me when your going”
“Cool” I said then turned to look for Rebecca
who wasn’t looking at us but talking with another
classmate of ours, she seemed ok..but I found
my way back to her after class.
The next day I went to the library to read up
some stuff for my upcomig text in physiology,
being a medical student was not easy, so many
things to read in so little time, a car pulled over
with loud music, I walked on till I heard my
sisters voice
“Emily get in the car”, the car was a black.Benz,
I was shocked to the core as I wondered what
she was doing in some strange guys car..
” I ll walk thanks ”
“Stop being dramatic and get it”
I rolled my eyes at her but got in, the guy drove
off
“Where you coming from?”
“Library..”
“,of course” she said
“Watsup” I looked at the driver, the guy was cute
in a rough kind of way, he had a bandana on his
head and toothpick in his mouth
“This is Donald..that’s Emilia my sister”
“Where you from..she’s prettier”
“That’s what he said” she said dismissively, she
looked at me
“Did you get what I askend you?”
“Not gone home yet..prepping for a test”
Erica looked me up”you went to class like this? “,
I decided to say nothing, everyone kept talking
about my dressing maybe it was really bad.
Erica got down with me at my hostel, waving to
Donald we went in
“Did you cook..I am famished”
“I ll just warm the soup”
“I am in no.mood for swallow, fix up something”
I decided to make indomie for her
“So Donald uh..hes your boyfriend?”
“Yeah..he cute uh?”
” well hes ok..your type”
“Yea my type..don’t want no religiousnigga
around me”
I paused”you know you can’t present him to Dad”
My sister stared at me then laughed so hard I
wonder what I said
“Did I say something wrong?”
“Of course you did..what makes you think I ll
marry him?”
“Well hes..because hes your boyfriend”
“You so naive, check the food please”
“Why didn’t he take you to lunch?”
“We were busy..plus I have a sister who cooks
why would I waste money” she said, rolling my
eyes I focused on the indomie. She slept over
that night and I said a prayer for her that she
shouldn’t go too far away from God.
We had fellowship that Wednesday, it was the
first since resumption and I greeted persons I
hadn’t seen since the holidays, as I greeted
Sister Diana, I looked up and met the eyes of our
president Martins, I looked down quickly not
wanting him to see my blush, I had developed a
stupid crush on him since we started working
together, well he was really good looking and a
Christian, most sisters wanted God to speak to
him on their behalf. Whenever he preached, I
paid full attention with butterflies in my stomach,
it seemed he had noticed me too because we
were very close as he but I didn’t want to
assume, he was nice to everyone. He had
reached me as I tried to arrange the offering
” Sister Emilia, how nice to see you again”
“Yeah me too..did you gel your hair?”
“You noticed..well just something my sister was
trying on me..how does it look”
“Well.. good..she did a great job”
“I gues am her model..she’s into hair products”
“Ok, good thing she doesn’t even have to pay you
to market her business”
He chuckled revealing a dimple on his left cheek
and butterflies started again, he got serious”I
wanted to speak to young concerning the bus
project..we could call a meeting with the excos
so we can full deliberate on it”
“Well of course.. Would arrange it..say Saturday”
“That’s ok..how was the hols?”
“Great..kind of long”
“What..it was short for me..what with the
presidential work to come back to.. I needed the
break”
“Are you complaining?”
“Gods work.. No way” Diana came to ask him
about something and he excused himself and
left..I stared after him ..maybe he was the
one..maybe not..but I really enjoyed talking with
him.
Serena wasn’t able to make it that Wednesday
but swore she d come the next. I was really
excited for her to come to church. We wrote the
test on Friday of that week, I didn’t do so well as
the questions seemed difficult but I hoped the
result came out well.
“I don’t know why you insist on me coming to
the party, I d be a total nuisance, I can’t dance,
socialize.. or dress up” I said for the upteeth
time to Serena who didn’t want to give up, we
just came out from the library
“I just want you to be there..its my brothers
birthday..

The unwanted pregnancy(emotional story)

Sophia walked down the carpet greeting both national and international stars, Gina was there with Matthew, they hugged and joked, Dan also had a nice chat with Matthew and she saw the knowing wink he sent her.
They were approaching the host and hostess, Kanye and Kim K wondering how they got that part despite Kim’s expressed dislike for Nigeria was one thing Sophia would be doing.
Dan held her tightly, because of the look of appraisal she received from the both of them.
“Did you get them?” Kim asked.
“No, mine are natural, I was born with it.” she said smiling a little, her intense dislike was almost obvious, but Kim didn’t notice.
“Really, cause they really blend into you.” Kanye said, Dan almost drew her back from his hungry gaze.
“Thanks, but we have to go now, shouldn’t we darling?” Dan said possessively, as he held her arm and they left the power couple to greet other guests.
“God, did you see how they watched us, bet Kanye is going to rap about it in his new song, that guy can rant.” Sophia whispered as they walked into the hall. They greeted so many stars from South Africa, Algeria, Mozambique, sierra Leone, Cameroun, Ghana, Ethiopia, every of the 54 African country entertainers were present.
They were ushered to their seats, and after some minutes the show began, performances at every stop and turn and Sophia was already exhausted before her award nomination, but she had won and Dan kissed her when she got back to her seat, and photographers were everywhere on them.
She managed to make it home in one piece after Dan elicited a promise to see him the next day she was just too tired to y him out.
The loud sound of the continuous whirling of a sewing machine cut off all the noise in the room, Sophia’s head was bent as she adjusted the needle.
“Brrrr.” the machine went on as she continued sowing, she was absorbed in the rhythmic movement of the needle to her changing the position of the cloth.
She didn’t hear, when the door of her office burst open. But what she did hear was the clicking heels, no one wore heels to work on Fridays at the Nikkin. She lifted her eyes and her eyes met with a young averaged height lady with red dyed hair. They stared at each other, the lady had a look of contempt, on her fair face she was solidly masked by professional makeup. She wore a short red dress and designer accessories.
“Good afternoon, but I think you are in the wrong department, this department is for male outfits ma’am.” Sophia said politely, thinking she was a customer that missed her way.
“Good afternoon, I’m not here to do business, but I’m here to see you, this two timing tart.” Sophia was taken aback as the lady pointed a talon like nail at her as she spoke.
“You think you are so clever, that you can take my husband from me.” at that Sophia stood up, and started thinking of any husbands she had snatched.
“Ma’am with all due respect I have no idea what you are saying.” she said, standing close to her desk, the woman looked really desperate though. And desperate is dangerous too.
“Oh pretender Holy Mary Amaka, abi be pretending, look Dan would just dump you.I’m Mrs. Ani and I have four children for him, three girls and a son. He is their father, look at me well if I ever see you with him. You’ll see pepper, useless thing.” the lady raved angrily, her claws flashing every second as if she would cut off Sophia’s face and her face was contorted to resemble an ugly vulture with a lot of makeup.
Sophia smelt desperation, deceit, and jealously written over her. Even her cologne was an off cloying scent, she smelt cheap and Sophia had better things to do today.
“Excuse me then. I have nothing to say to you.” she said, as she pointed to the door.
“You this cheap rat, so you are afraid to fight abi? Are you feel that you are too big, too famous to let me tell you, you are nothing but a LovePeddler in gold clothes, you just sold yourself out.” Sophia gave her a cool look and the girl got more pissed before she launched a slap at Sophia.
Sophia was stunned as she held her cheeks, she felt like sending the girl to a hell of beating, how dare she, but instead to her own amazement she looked down at the girl and laughed.
The girl’s face was filled with fear now, she too was surprised is not everyone you slap like that, that laughs.
“So you’ll think I’ll stoop so low to your level, you don’t realise that while you are here picking a fight, your mates are there making millions. God saved your life that I’ve vowed never to fight over any man again or else, you’ll know that khaki no be leather, infact the nose is far from the forehead.
How dare you? But you know what I don’t blame you, I blame this circumstance and your stupid parents for not training you or maybe it isn’t them, maybe its you that decided to take this path to destruction, well sincerely I don’t care, you have decided to waste your destiny, I won’t let you waste mine. Get out before I pounce on you, shameless girl!!!!” Sophia screamed at her,and the girl scurrying like a mouse ran out with tears in her eyes. She had started crying even before Sophia sent her out.
“What went wrong?” Boma came in, just as the girl ran out, but Sophia’s red eyes kept him shut as he whispered his apologies and left.
Sophia buried her head and cried, she didn’t care that she was crying on the uniform for the National Rotary Club president, she just wept asking anything around her to help her.
Now she couldn’t describe how she felt, before she didn’t care about Dan, his music or him, but after that night, well things had changed, then he came back with blackmail, she had locked him out, now all these and she was afraid that in her heart of hearts that she was falling for Dan.
“Oh No why should it be Dan? Why?” she said, sobbing and sniffing, she was going to show the world that she could as well cope without Dan. She couldn’t stand the nonsense all over again. Infact it was bye bye Dan time.

Banke's Insignificant Problem

Gboyega wakes up with a start. Kofo is still asleep sprawled over his bare body. He shuts his eyes and the event of the night flashes in his mind. His heart cries out to God for forgiveness. Once again, he had allowed himself to be used to fulfill Kofo’s desires. The cry of his heart is deep and intense and it consumes his whole being.
He lifts his head and looks at Kofo’s face. Her jaw is set even in her sleep. He lifts her gently off his body. He stands up from the bed to pick up his underwear and clothes which are strewn all over the room from the night’s encounter. He dresses up quickly and quietly. The keys to his room lie on the floor beside the chaise lounge. It had been released from Kofo’s b---m when he tore her underwear away. He picks up both keys, slings the travel bag he had packed the night before over his shoulders and opens the door quietly. He walks briskly into the early morning dew. His wrist watch tells him that it is a quarter to 5.00am. He has nowhere to go as he has not figured it out yet. But what he is sure of, is that he wants to be far away from Kofo.
He walks to the bus-stop as the early risers make their preparations for the day’s business. He begins to weigh his options of a temporary abode. A colleague of his and also a youth corper lived alone with her younger sister. Their parents were hardly at home as they travelled constantly. She had once invited him over to her house but he had taken a rain check. Her home would have been a comfortable option for him but right now, he was finding it difficult to trust any other woman besides Bola.
Another friend of his comes to mind. He lived in a self-contained apartment just like his on the other side of town. They had both graduated from the same university but from different departments. They had met at the orientation camp and had hooked up immediately. He thought of putting a call to him as he looked at his wrist watch. It was 5.30a.m. He knew it was quite early to ring someone on a Sunday morning but there were no other options.
His friend picks up the call after the fourth ring. “Hello.” He answers half-awake.
“Good morning Tosan. I’m sorry I woke you up.”
“What’s up, Gboyega?”
“I need a favour.” Gboyega prays in his heart that his request will not be denied.
“Okay?”
“Can I bunk up with you for a few days?” He really had no idea how long it will take before Kofo got tired and left his room. He hoped it will be sooner than later.
“It’s fine but is there a problem at your end?”
“Yeah, something of the sort.”
“Okay. I’m home. You can come over.” Tosan concludes.
“Thanks a lot, Tosan. I should be there in less than an hour.”
His well thought out plan gives him renewed energy. He would stay with Tosan and go to work from there. It will cost him more in transportation but right now, he really did not care. If it meant taking rough and cheaper buses to work, he would. He knew there was no way Kofo would find him where he was. He only hoped she would tire out of the search for him quickly and return to Lagos.****************
Kofo yawns as she stretches on the bed to feel Gboyega. She lifts her head a little when she realizes he is not on the bed. She checks the time on the wall clock in the room. It is 10.00a.m. She smiles broadly as she remembers the pleasurable night. Gboyega never failed to disappoint her and last night, he had possessed her with great force and renewed vigour. She knew it would only be a matter of time before he came lapping up to her because they belonged to each other. She runs her tongue over her lips as her body desires more of him. He had denied her for too long and she wanted to have him to her fill.
She stands up to check on him in the bathroom when she notices that his clothes are no longer on the floor. She looks towards the reading table where his travel bag had been last night; it is no longer there. She hits her right hand on the bed in anger. Gboyega had left her again. Anger begins to boil within her chest. He couldn’t have gone back to Akure. He has to go to work. She makes a futile effort to calm down. She shakes her head. No, he is coming back. He won’t dare leave me alone again. She picks up her phone and rings her informant. She gives him details of what she needs. She steps into the bathroom and decides to fill up the bath tub with hot water. What she needs right now is to soak in a hot bath and be relaxed.Gbosgaga belonged to her. He will definitely be back.
For a whole week, Kofo waits patiently for Gboyega’s return. She shops for new clothing in town and also familiarizes herself with the city. She leaves his room every day returning late at night. She makes a few business contacts with politicians in the city and slowly begins to build a small cartel.
One of Gboyega’s neighbours notice her as she is about to drive out of the compound one late morning. He walks up to her. “Hi, you must be Gboyega’s girlfriend. My name is Zolch.” He says stretching forth his hand to take hers which were already on the wheel.
Kofo looks at him over the rim of the shades on her face. “Zolch?” She questions as she gives him her hand.
He kisses the back of her hand. “Yes, Zolch.” He laughs. “That is what most people call me”.
Kofo gives him a disdainful look. “Okay”. She replies as she starts the car.
“I was wondering, I have not seen Gboyega for a while.”
Kofo looks at him and fakes a smile. “He travelled out of town. He should be back soon.”
“Okay, say hi to him whenever he calls.”
“I will.” Kofo sneers as she drives off. She hisses as she rolls up her window.Zolch looks at the tail lights of the car till it disappears. “Wow, what a catch?” He says to himself. “Na this kain babe I dey look for.”
Kofo moves out of Gboyega’s room the next week. After one week of waiting, it looked like Gboyega had fallen out of her grasp. She called her informant daily as she waited patiently for news from him. She needed to go back to Lagos as some of her clients had been calling her incessantly. Her job was suffering because of her continued stay in Shagamu and her clients were beginning to get upset with her. They were getting bored of some of the girls she had provided and were asking for fresh girls. She goes back to Lagos to face her business but she insists on her informant continuing his job until he hits gold.
Gboyega rings his neighbour from his hiding place three weeks after his absence. “Uzo, how far now? How you dey?”
“Hey, my guy. You don arrive?” Zolch answers.
“No, I neva come.”
“Where you come dey sins? I see your girlfriend. Chai! This guy, you get eyes for head oh.”
Gboyega is not amused. “Abeg, she still dey dia?”
“Hmm…e be like say I see her when she dey carry plenty bag comot your room last week.”
“You sure?”
“Ahn ahn, you dey run from her?”
“No. I just dey ask. You fit help me check to confirm?”
“Guy, this one wey you dey do confirmation for your girlfriend. She don carry belle for you?”
“No be like that. Abeg, just call me when you don confirm.” Gboyega says impatiently.
A few minutes later, Zolch rings Gboyega back. “I tell you say she don go but she no lock your door. E dey open.”
“No wahala. Thank you.” Gboyega says.
“If na me, I no go let that kain girl go oh. I go just die for the girl lap. Haba! See the kain car wey she dey drive. Her papa go get money. Na the kain thing I dey find be dat make I comot this poverty level.” Zolch rambles on.
Gboyega mumbles a reply and cuts the line. He breathes a sigh of relief. He had avoided telling Tosan his problem. He only told him that he had a visitor who came from Lagos for a programme and that he wanted her to have some privacy. He told him that the programme should not take more than two weeks. He was delighted to have his room back as he thanked Tosan profusely and apologized for the inconvenience.
It was time to go back home.
Bola’s relationship with Gboyega continues to blossom. They talk every morning and night but he refuses to mention the incident with Kofo. Bola had wondered why he hadn’t called the night he left Akure for Shagamu. She had waited all day for his call. When she did not hear from him by a quarter to midnight, she decided to ring him. She wanted to be sure he was home safely.
Gboyega lied to her that he had slept off immediately he got home. He could not bring himself to tell her the truth. His mobile phone had been in his jeans pocket and the trouser lay on the floor where Kofo had pulled it down his thighs; her hands and lips exploring every nook of his body. The phone had rang continuously for a few minutes when the lovers were taking delight in the pleasures of their bodies and their orgies were about hitting a crescendo. None of them had heard the constant ringing and even if they had, the call would have been ignored.
Gboyega had seen the missed calls the next morning as he was about to call Tosan but had decided against calling Bola immediately. After the incident of the previous night, his mind and conscience was in disarray. He needed to calm his spirit before he could call her. When he was safe and settled in Tosan’s apartment, he put a call to her. It took a lot of willpower as the guilt of the night weighed so much on his soul that he felt dirty talking to her. Bola had noticed that he sounded depressed but he had waved it off as his lack of sleep. She was just beginning to trust him and he was not ready to break the fragile trust she had in him.
Gboyega has not seen or heard from Kofo in a while. Even though, he is happy that she is out of his life, he is also skeptical. Kofo was not one to be messed with and he knew that too well. He hoped she was gone for good but at the same time, he reckoned she was probably preparing another arsenal of weapons.
The months pass by quickly and his National Youth Service Programme comes to a close. He is most delighted because he would no longer be far away from Bola. He has saved up some money from the allowance paid to him by the government and he intends to propose to her after his programme. Even though he does not have a job yet, he knows they only needed to take it one day at a time. Besides, Bola had also mentioned that she did not intend to get married as a student. So that gave him ample time to look for a job, secure an apartment and settle down in Akure.
*********
Mrs. Davies drives home alone on a Friday night. She is tired and exhausted from a long day at work. She lets herself into her house and goes to the refrigerator to get herself a bottle of water. Her phone rings from her handbag and she walks back to the settee to get it. She looks at the caller ID. The number is hidden. She wonders who could be calling her at this time of the night with a hidden number.
“Hello?”
“Hello. This is Mrs. Davies, right?” The caller asks.
“Yes, Mrs. Davies speaking.”
“I have some information that would be of great interest to you.”
“Information? Sorry, may I know who I am speaking with?” Banke asks.
“A friend.” The caller says.
“A friend? From where please? Have we met before?”
“Mrs. Davies, all these questions are inconsequential at the moment. Your husband was killed some years ago, right?”
“Who are you?” Banke shouts into the phone as she begins to shake.
“I told you I’m a friend. Take this address down.”
Banke rummages through her handbag for a pen and a paper.
The caller reels out an address. “You might find something interesting in that address.”
The mysterious caller drops the call and Banke looks at her phone confused. The caller had not given a name and the ID had also been hidden. She tries to think if it was a man or a woman speaking but the voice had sounded muffled. A door slams and she is startled. She looks around her and she is suddenly afraid. She goes to the main door and locks it. She closes all the window blinds and goes to her room fearfully.Who was playing games with her?
She locks the door of her bedroom behind her as well. She sits on her bed and scrolls through her phone. She hits the dial button on a number. “Hi Tayo.”
“Banke, how are you? It’s been a while.” Inspector Tayo asks cheerfully.
“Tayo, please I need help.”
“Is there a problem?” Tayo asks, his tone getting serious.
“I just received a call from someone who mentioned Femi’s death. The person gave me an address and asked that I go there.”
Tayo laughs. “Banke, I’m sure it’s a crank call. Don’t bother yourself over it.”
“But what if it is not. What if….I don’t know, maybe Femi’s killers live there.”
“Banke, don’t do anything stupid. We tried our best to look for Femi’s killers. They were never found. They disappeared into thin air.”
“What if….?”
Tayo interrupts her. “There are no what ifs Banke. So go to bed and have a good night’s sleep. Okay?”
Banke is quiet.
“Banke?”
“Tayo, Femi was your friend.” Banke says as a sob catches in her throat. “Are you saying we would never find his killers?”
Tayo sighs loudly. “Yes, he was my friend. I am not happy that we never found his killers. There is really nothing we can do at the moment. We went to the airport together to see if we could locate the taxi. You could not identify the taxi or the driver. What else could I have done?”Banke is crying and does not utter a word.
“Banke, please let this matter rest.”
“Thank you.” Banke says as she cuts the call.
Oh how she wished she could turn back the hands of time. To have Femi back in her arms. How wicked the world is. To have rendered her a widow and her only daughter fatherless at a young age.
She takes off her clothes and steps into her bathroom to take a bath. She walks out of the bathroom minutes later still in tears. Tears will not bring Femi back but right now, she feels so heartbroken. The strange call had reopened old wounds. She lies on her bed and sobs till she falls asleep.

The next morning, Banke rises up from her bed after a fitful sleep. She has a nagging headache from her lack of sleep. She ponders over last night’s call. She is unsure of what to do but she needs to satisfy her curiosity. She decides to ring a colleague of hers.
“Good morning Lolu.”
“Morning Banke, how are you doing?” Lolu asks.
“Not too good.” Banke says.
“What’s the problem?”
“I need a favour.”
“Okay?”
“Can you go somewhere with me today?”
“Where?”
“I’ll tell you when we see. Can I pick you up at home?”
Lolu chuckles. “Yeah, but where exactly are we going?”
“It’s out of town and I don’t want to visit alone.”
“Visiting a boyfriend?” Lolu teases.
“Get serious for once Lolu. It’s nothing of the sort. I’ll give you more details when I pick you up.”
“O-Kay! If you say so ma’am. I’ll be waiting.”
Banke takes a quick bath and heads out of her house without breakfast. It is really important that she checks out this address regardless of Tayo’s warning. The only person she could count on was Lolu. He was single, daring and carefree. He was a few years younger than her but he was yet to settle down and get married. He had the notion that marriage was only for the strong-hearted.
She drives to Lolu’s house to pick him up and the journey to discovery begins.
